A Travel Advisor’s Behind-the-Scenes Fam Trip
When it comes to planning a Los Cabos destination wedding, nothing beats firsthand knowledge. Recently, I packed my bags with my fellow travel advisor Dana from DWD Travel and headed to Cabo for a full-on resort fam trip – site visits, meetings with wedding coordinators, and yes, plenty of fish tacos along the way. We also shared all the details on the The Hivemind Podcast if you want to hear it straight from us!
The goal? To personally vet the best resorts for destination weddings in Los Cabos so we can give our couples honest, insider recommendations – not just what looks good in a brochure.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at where we went, who we met with, and what we discovered.

Why We Chose These Los Cabos Destination Wedding Resorts
We didn’t just pick resorts at random. Our focus was on properties that are genuinely easy to work with for couples – resorts with dedicated wedding teams, flexible venues, and the kind of infrastructure that makes a destination wedding feel seamless rather than stressful. We also wanted to cover a range of budgets, styles, and group sizes so we can match every couple with their perfect fit.
At each property, we met with wedding managers, wedding coordinators, and sales managers – the people who actually make weddings happen on the ground.
Los Cabos Destination Wedding Resorts: Grouped by Traveler Type
For the Party-Loving Couple
Breathless Los Cabos
If your wedding group loves to dance until dawn, Breathless should be on your shortlist. DJs start spinning from late morning through the afternoon, the rooftop lounges are stunning, and the Wink Bar is open 24/7. What surprised us? Despite the high-energy party atmosphere, Breathless actually has a swimmable beach – a rare find in Cabo. The Exhale Club upgrade adds a more premium layer with private pool chairs, enhanced mini-bars, and exclusive cocktail menus. With only 169 rooms, it’s smaller than you’d expect for such a lively resort, which actually makes it feel more intimate for a wedding group.
Best for: Bachelor/bachelorette parties, groups of friends, couples who love nightlife and energy.

Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos
Hard Rock is a wedding powerhouse. Nearly every room (95%) faces the ocean, there’s a private check-in for groups, multiple restaurants, a bowling alley, escape room, and live shows every night. The Eden Pool is a showstopper. What makes it especially appealing for weddings is their groups program – the more room nights booked, the more complimentary events your group earns, making it surprisingly cost-effective. It’s also one of the few resorts with two queen bed room options, which is a lifesaver for friend groups.
The beach isn’t swimmable, but honestly, with a waterpark right on the beach, a fitness center, and Nobu next door for a special dinner night – nobody’s complaining.
We’ve even had couples celebrate their wedding here – check out Nat & Pat’s Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos wedding recap to see it through a real couple’s eyes.
Best for: Any group type – multi-gen, friends, bachelorette, incentive groups, weddings. Especially great for families with teens.

For the Romantic & Refined Couple
Secrets Los Cabos
Secrets has that hacienda charm with a modern twist, and it’s in a genuinely great location – a short drive from the airport and close to San José del Cabo, Flora Farms, and Acre. The Desires nightclub genuinely impressed us; dark leather, moody lighting, total cigar bar vibes. It would make an incredible photo op for a groom and his groomsmen.
One honest heads up: the beach is tricky. The current is rough and conditions literally change year to year – the resort sits higher up so you take steps down to the sand. But if beach access isn’t your top priority and you love a stylish, adults-only atmosphere, Secrets delivers.
Best for: Adults-only groups, honeymoons, destination weddings of 60-80 guests.

Nobu Hotel Los Cabos
Sleek, modern, Japanese-influenced – Nobu is for the sophisticated traveler who wants world-class food at the center of their experience. The Shaiawase Terrace can host up to 400 guests, and dining is exactly what you’d expect from the Nobu brand. Swim-up rooms in the Pacific section are stunning. One important note for couples: weddings require a $30k food and beverage minimum for 60 guests, not including décor. The beach isn’t swimmable, but the views are gorgeous.
Best for: High net worth groups, honeymooners seeking modern luxury, foodies.

For Families & Multi-Gen Groups
Dreams Los Cabos
Don’t let the 24-year-old age fool you – Dreams is charming, well-kept, and incredibly family-friendly. Nearly all rooms (90%) have ocean views, all rooms come with pull-out sofas (perfect for kids or teens), and the new swim-up rooms are a great addition. The hacienda-style architecture gives it a warmth that newer resorts sometimes lack. The beach isn’t swimmable, and there’s no Preferred Club pool, but for multi-gen groups on a reasonable budget, this one punches above its weight.
Best for: Families with children or teens, multi-gen groups wanting charm without the luxury price tag.

Hilton Los Cabos
The Hilton has something almost no other Cabo resort can claim: a calm, swimmable beach in a natural cove. That alone makes it stand out for families. Beyond the beach, there are five restaurants, private group check-in, and impressive wedding infrastructure – they host 60 weddings a year, only one per day. Note that terrace events end at 10pm unless you use the El Dorado Terrace near the lobby (for a $3,000 fee). With 86% occupancy when we visited, it’s clearly in high demand.
Best for: Families with kids, couples with a mid-range wedding budget ($35k-$50k), adults seeking tranquility.

For the Luxury Focused Couple
Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos
This one genuinely surprised us with its variety of wedding venues. The Peninsula Garden holds up to 150 guests, there’s a ballroom that parties until 3am (a rarity in Cabo!), and the Imperial Suite is a showstopper – $6k/night with a 3-night minimum, but it can host up to 80 guests with private walkways and bathrooms for attendees. The spa uses wine-based treatments in a co-ed hydrotherapy space, which is unique. One quirk: there’s a Starbucks and menus with prices on property – unusual for an all-inclusive, but it’s because residents actually live on the property.
We’ve even had couples celebrate their wedding here – check out Kalli & Evan’s Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos wedding recap to see it through a real couple’s eyes.
Best for: Wedding groups who want venue variety, adults-only or friends groups who want nightlife on-site, multi-gen families who golf.

Grand Velas Los Cabos
Grand Velas is true luxury all-inclusive done right. A Michelin-star restaurant is included in the all-inclusive plan, all Grand Class rooms have ocean views, and the 5-diamond service standard is evident throughout. The Sky Bar can be privatized for $5,000 – a unique and memorable venue option. Couples can bring outside vendors without fees, though sound and lighting must be in-house. When we visited, occupancy was only 40%, which means couples get a lot of attentive service.
Best for: High net worth couples, honeymooners who want Michelin-star dining included, destination wedding groups who want zero vendor fee surprises.

Velas Boutique
If personalization is your love language, Velas Boutique is your resort. Choose from 12 custom in-room scents, sip on the owners’ own mezcal, find Dyson hair tools already in your room, and enjoy binoculars for whale watching. Every stay includes mezcal, chocolate, and tequila tastings. One thing to know: there’s no dedicated bridal suite, but the resort provides a Grand Class suite for the wedding day at no cost. Only 10 rooms have double beds, and those are garden-view.
Best for: Honeymooners, romantic getaways, adults-only groups who want boutique privacy with access to Grand Velas dining next door.

Mar del Cabo (Casa Velas)
Built in the 1950s, Mar del Cabo has a nostalgic, home-away-from-home feel that’s genuinely charming. Farm-to-table cuisine, homemade bread, thoughtful touches like complimentary water and coffee – it’s intimate and warm. With just 48 rooms, it’s ideal for smaller buyout weddings. The one-bedroom balcony suite has perfect sunrise views over the ocean.
Best for: Intimate weddings (around 50 guests, $40-$50k budget), retirees, honeymooners who want charm over scale.

Boutique & Wellness
Zoetry Cabo San Lucas
Stepping into Zoetry feels like walking onto the set of Encanto – whimsical, intimate, with only 61 rooms. Guests can have food and drinks delivered poolside from room service, which gives it a genuinely personal feel. It runs at full occupancy regularly, which says a lot. It’s also important to note that kids are charged adult rates, so it naturally skews toward couples and adults.
Best for: Wellness-focused couples, honeymooners seeking intimacy, retirees.

Live Aqua Los Cabos
Live Aqua stood out for its flexible villa living. The 3-bedroom deluxe villa is spacious and perfect for families. Guests can also dine at Fiesta next door, ordering à la carte for added variety. One major caveat for wedding couples: wedding guests staying here must pay a $220 per person, per day supplement for the all-inclusive plan – which can add up fast.
Best for: Families and multi-gen groups who want villa living, couples comfortable with supplement charges who value dining flexibility.

The One Ultra-Luxury Option Worth Mentioning
If your clients have an unlimited budget and want the most exclusive experience in Los Cabos, Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is in a category of its own. Every room has a private pool. The staff-to-guest ratio is extraordinary (570 staff for 112 units). They host only 30 weddings per year – one per weekend – with budgets averaging $600-$1,000 per guest. The hiring process alone (seven interviews per staff member) tells you everything about the level of service. This is for the ultra-high net worth couple who wants flawless, personalized luxury with no compromises.

What This Fam Trip Confirmed
Visiting these resorts in person confirmed exactly why we do these trips. Photos lie. Descriptions gloss over the details. But walking a venue, meeting the wedding coordinators face to face, tasting the food, and asking the hard questions – that’s what allows us to give our couples genuinely confident recommendations.
