As a travel specialist for soon-to-be-weds, I’ve visited a LOT of destination wedding venues. Casa de Campo stands out as one of the best! Located in La Romana, Dominican Republic, it was the first resort opened in the island nation 50 years ago. Since then, its reputation has grown as a premier destination for discerning travelers and celebrities like J. Lo and Pitbull!
Casa de Campo’s golf courses are among the best in the world, and their cuisine draws foodies from near and far. It’s not just another cookie-cutter resort, either—it offers a unique, country club-esque feel that mimics staying in a private community. Ready to book your stay, like, yesterday? Here’s everything you need to know about this destination wedding venue!
Casa de Campo: The Rundown
This resort’s location in La Romana situates it within a reasonable distance of three major airports. Most travelers use Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), located 45 minutes from the resort. However, La Romana International Airport (LRM) is the closest at 15 minutes away. Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ), located 90 minutes away, is also an option.
One thing’s certain: you won’t go hungry when you stay at Casa de Campo! The resort boasts seven restaurants (and two food trucks!) scattered throughout the grounds. The cuisine is outstanding, and several locations, including the Minitas Beach Club, supply oceanfront views.
When you book your stay, you may select an all-inclusive meal plan or opt to skip a meal plan altogether. However, I always recommend that destination wedding groups choose the all-inclusive option. Doing this will go a long way toward offsetting costs for your guests! Plus, the plan will grant you access to all but three onsite restaurants and food trucks, making it simple to satisfy any cravings at a moment’s notice.
The activities at Casa de Campo are also world-class, ensuring you’ll never be bored! Lounge on one of three private, pristine white sand beaches or shop in La Romana. Prefer to stay active on vacation? Try your hand at Teeth of the Dog, the #1 ranked golf course in the Caribbean, or check out the massive equestrian center. There’s something for everyone here!
What to Know Before You Book
It’s best to acquire a complete picture of the resort experience before you book. While Casa de Campo is a famed destination, it isn’t the right choice for everyone!
Prospective guests should know that this is NOT a walkable resort. The grounds are huge! The resort provides a golf cart with each room for ease of mobility. However, if you’re looking for a destination with a more intimate feel, you may opt to look elsewhere. In addition, the hotel rooms at Casa de Campo do not have ocean views. They are among the larger accommodations I’ve seen at a Caribbean resort, though! It’s all about weighing your options and deciding what matters most to you.
Travelers to Casa de Campo and the Dominican Republic at large should also be aware that the pace of island living is slower. You can expect slower service at bars and restaurants than you’re accustomed to in the States. With that said, I always advise my clients to embrace it! The service here is still world-class, and a little patience goes a long way.
Ready to get your party on? Casa de Campo probably isn’t your ideal destination. This resort best suits travelers looking for a quiet, upscale environment. However, there are plenty of places to hang out with a large group, including the Genesis Nightclub at Altos de Chavón. Moreover, although it isn’t “party central,” Casa de Campo is not known for being child-friendly. While the resort is open to guests of all ages, you won’t find any waterslides, kiddie pools, or a kid’s club here.
Now, since you’re well informed of the ins and outs of this resort, let’s discuss why you *should* book your destination wedding at Casa de Campo!
Booking Your Destination Wedding at Casa de Campo
If you’re looking for an ultra-luxurious experience without the $100k+ price tag, you’ve found it at Casa de Campo. The resort only books one wedding per day, meaning you’ll have the run of the place for the duration of your celebration!
There are a few wedding packages to choose between, but my top recommendations are the Ultimate Promise and Ultimate Bliss bundles. These include everything you need for a three-day wedding celebration, excluding a photographer and videographer (this is common). Not to mention that the cost of these packages ultimately comes out to a lot less than the sticker price! For each guest booked into your room contract, you’ll save up to $150 off the total. Let’s break it down, using the Ultimate Promise package as an example:
The sticker price is $29,500 for a wedding with 58 guests. Now say you’ll receive a $150 credit per each adult guest booked. Multiplying 58 adult guests by $150 comes to $8,700 of savings off your wedding package! That brings the total to $20,800!!
