Earlier this year, I had the privilege of spending three nights at Impression Moxché by Secrets, a sexy, sophisticated, brand-new resort in Playa del Carmen! I attended a Romance Travel Forum event and spent three days exploring the resort and enjoying all its amenities. I’m pleased to say that it was an incredible experience, and I look forward to returning!
This resort would be perfect for a high-end honeymoon, babymoon, or anniversary getaway. The Impressions Hotel lies within the pre-existing Secrets Moxché Resort, with upgraded amenities for a truly luxurious experience. While there, you’ll enjoy butler service, a rooftop pool, mouthwatering coastal cuisine, and a private beach area. The resort resembles a Yucatan cenote, or natural sinkhole, and features charming stone pathways and lush plant life.
Impression Moxché by Secrets Review
Rooms: 5/5
The rooms at Impression Moxché by Secrets are super sexy, from the black marble and wooden accents to the incredible views. I couldn’t imagine a better place for a romantic getaway! Plus, each room features a soaking tub in the bathroom and on the balcony for late-night relaxation.
Food: 5/5
Where do I begin?! If you’re familiar with the Secrets brand, you know that the food is on an entirely different level. Everything was so fresh and delicious, including the drinks! I loved that there were plenty of health-conscious options, including protein bowls, lettuce wrap tacos, matcha pancakes, and smoothies.
Beach: 3/5
Meh. Don’t come here for the beach! While the white sand is soft and pretty, sargassum (a.k.a. seaweed) frequently washes onto the beach. Unfortunately, this causes the beach to be stinky and the water to be murky. When I was there in June, there was sargassum, which the resort cleaned up every day. However, if I was poolside near the beach, I could still smell it, which wasn’t pleasant!
Pools: 5/5
If you’re a pool person, you’ll be in heaven at Impression Moxché by Secrets. You can pool hop all day long from the infinity rooftop pools to the lagoons and private cenote pools. They truly have it all! I didn’t count, but I would bet there are over ten pools spread throughout the resort.
Nightlife: 3/5
This resort isn’t party central, but I still had a good time. In general, there is a very chill vibe all day and night. For music lovers, there is live entertainment—primarily acoustic sets over the lagoon, making for a relaxing and romantic night out! There is also a hidden speakeasy in the Pharmacy, accessible only by password. It’s a club, but the overall vibe depends heavily on the crowd. It’s open until 1 a.m. each night, so if you want to enjoy a late night out, you can do so!
Minor Complaints
I had several minor complaints after my stay at Impression Moxché by Secrets. However, please take these with a grain of salt, as they are very specific to my experience! It’s important to me to be transparent with my couples since these things could happen to you, too. However, these complaints didn’t ruin my experience (far from it!), and I would still go back in a heartbeat.
— There was steam on my room’s windows, making it difficult to get a clear view of the pool area/ocean.
— I noted minor wear and tear throughout the resort, including dirty cushions on the rooftop, stains on the lobby rug, and stains on the bench in front of my bed. I’d pictured an immaculate setting, given the resort’s price point and relative newness, so this was a bit disappointing.
— One fan at the outdoor rooftop restaurant broke, which meant none of the fans worked since they’re on the same electrical line. It made for a hot lunch!
Bottom Line: 5/5
Despite some slight drawbacks, I had an incredible experience at Impression Moxché by Secrets and would recommend it to anyone! It’s especially suited to the high-end couple looking for a luxurious, all-inclusive experience on their honeymoon, babymoon, or next romantic getaway. It would also be fabulous for a destination wedding! Learn more about your options for hosting a destination wedding at Secrets Moxché Resort here.
